Pivoting is being able to quickly change things to create success where there may have been impending failure or poor results.
During 2020 and 2021 many organizations had to pivot like never before. The pandemic caused such disruption that operations had to be looked at through a completely different lens.
For instance, restaurants would normally have people dining inside. After suddenly having to close their inside dining, they turned their systems around by delivering more food than ever before and eventually adding outside dining.
Along with the big pivot of delivering food to homes, they at another point started to serve diners outside the restaurant in the open air. Although some had patios before, they were not utilized as much as during the pandemic.
Today, let’s take a look at your PIVOT FACTOR. This is the term I am using for you to evaluate how prepared you are to pivot in your organization. Think about which rating you would give yourself:
RATING OURSELVES AT PIVOTING
5 We are excellent at pivoting and have always been proactive about it.
4 We are good at pivoting, but usually do it only when necessary.
3 We know how to pivot, but don’t always do it quickly enough.
2 We are poor at pivoting and may even lose revenue because we don’t.
1 We’ve never thought about pivoting.
