The Power of Executive Coaching

I was recently interviewed by a journal about the field of executive coaching. The interviewer wanted to know what my ideal client looked like? It was hard to answer this question, since I work with people in many different fields. My clients include doctors, retailers, plant managers, non profit directors, actors, inventors and young professionals. She wanted to know the "perfect age" for coaching. It really doesn't matter what age clients are, as long as they are "life-long learners" They must be like sponges-- always ready to soak up more and more knowledge that will make them successful in their field-- and in their life. The interviewer also wanted to know what makes people stick with me so long. I believe that it is because I am constantly searching for the latest and greatest ideas, so that I can provide the best tools for them to get the results they are looking for. I want them to face the future with confidence. She then asked me about my experience to back up I do. I was in the corporate world for more than 30 years and a CEO for ten of those years, so I've faced about every challenge there is AND made mistakes along the way. But it's important to note that the executive coach and his/her client form a solid partnership. It is both of them working together to discover success. And it is not just about the business. That's why I don't use the term "business coaching". That sounds like we will talk only about the business. And "life coaching" sounds a bit too lofty to me. I like "executive coaching" because it speaks to the whole person-- their business and their life.A big part of what I do is listen. Then I make comments. After that, the client and I work to create connections of what's been said and what they'll do. This helps us discover the answers they are looking for. After their session, they receive a Success Plan to work on until we meet again.
