I love to read and sometimes write down quotes from people. It doesn't have to be one from a famous person. I sometimes jot down things people say that make sense, are funny or that I think might be useful in my work. I especially like to read them in the morning, since it can set the tone of your day. Here's one: "The name of the game is taking care of yourself, because you're going to live long enough to wish you had." This quote is by Grace MirabellaThis quote is rich. It reminds us that if we just take a little time to treat ourselves well each day-- that is; eat the right things, get a little exercise and get enough sleep, we might be able to live a long time. Who doesn't want to do that?If you read age studies or look at charts showing life expectancies, you'll notice that it is slowly creeping up. We will probably live a lot longer than we think. Some say baby boomers may work until they are 80. That seems like a long time to me, since I retired from my first career at the age of 56. Now part of the idea of working until 80 is not that it is appealing to baby boomers-- but financially necessary.Maybe you should think about how long you will live? What are you shooting for? Would you like to live to be 100? If so, start treating your body as a temple (as the old saying goes) so that you can enjoy life. And maybe you need to ask yourself whether you want to be in your present profession forever or if you should make a change and start a whole new career. If you are like me, starting a new career is like being a kid again. It's just so much fun every day, since you are experiencing many things for the very first time.So make this day, week, month, year and life great. You have the power to do it.
