“I am your biggest fan.” Those words rang through my head all week long. A client of mine recapped some of his most recent successes in an e-mail he sent me. He thanked me for partnering with him to help accomplish some of what he’d done. At the end of the e-mail, he said " Of course, I am your biggest fans!" We frequently talk about the importance of telling the people who report to you how much they mean to you-- but when you (as the boss) get that feedback, it feels good, doesn't it? Recognition should be an important part of your day-to-day operations. If you can build a company on this value (the ability to frequently recognize people), you will enhance your career greatly.Who did you recognize last week? If you can't list five or more people you recognized (by telling them personally), you might want to think about whether things are happening that perhaps you are taking for granted.I’ll bet you remember some of the things people have recognized you for. That's exactly what it does for the people you recognize. In fact, if you keep increasing recognitions, you won't even realize how many you do. It just becomes the way that you operate. But get ready: You will get busier and busier having to recognize people for so many things going right. YOUR ACTION STEPS FOR THIS WEEK1. Who is the last person you recognized?2. How long has it been since you did that?3. Think of someone you want to recognize today.4. Make this one a hand-written recognition done on a nice card.5. If you don't have a box of thank you cards, go buy some. They're inexpensive.6. Notice the reaction you get after you deliver your recognition.7. Do at least one a day.
