Making Sure You Don't Ever Forget or Regret

The athlete Jacki Joyner-Kersee said, "It's better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret."As an Executive Coach, I ask my clients this: What are you forgetting that you might later be regretting? I ask them that so that they think of any possible ideas that they may have forgotten to develop.Almost every coaching client or seminar participant in my training classes can come up with one thing very quickly. It's the thing they just weren't sure would be a success. But as soon as they start talking about it, they get inspired. Folks, these great ideas might be so successful they could end up being a career change for you.The next most important things to remember is that almost every great idea will require GREAT PREPARATION. So many times we get into trouble because we think we can "wing it." We're busy with other stuff so we don't have the time to put our full PREPARATION POWER to work. The most successful people know that every great objective or goal takes careful preparation. They know that without it, they take a chance of failing easier than if they are totally prepared. One of the biggest things in my life that needed preparation was union negotiations. I learned from a boss who was expert at it. He would take months to prepare for "negotiation season". What I learned is that we were never caught off guard and it ALWAYS paid off.Since that time, I've always taken the time to prepare so that I didn't have to go back and repair.Share your thoughts on this subject. I'd love to use them for some upcoming keynote speeches I have about THE POWER OF PREPARATION.
