How Honest Are You with Your Clients?

If you proposed something to your client and it didn’t work out, would you be honest with them and tell them that? There’s a real estate firm in southern Florida that prides itself on doing that.

“We...distinguish ourselves by being really honest. We’ll tell you if something isn’t working out,” said David Moyer of Smith & Associates real Estate.

That’s so admirable and bold. It makes you feel like you are part of the family and for me, makes me want to do business with them. The value of honesty is big with me.

I’ll bet there have been times that you’ve purchased a product or service where something went wrong or what you were sold was not the right thing, but the salesperson or owner just would not admit that she or he could have recommended something better. How do you feel about that person and/or organization?

Let’s look at your organization now.

ACTION STEPS FOR THIS WEEK

  1. When was the last time that you told a client you should have chosen another course of action for them?
  2. If you thought of a time that happened, what did you do to make up for it?
  3. Is there any system you should introduce in the future that would really make your company value of “honesty” shine through?
