Be on the Front End of What’s Happening

You will occasionally hear people talk about how hard it is to “keep up” with what’s going on at their workplace or in their field today. After all: Information is doubling at a faster pace than ever before. Your field may look totally different than it did just a few years ago. These are exciting times, but sometimes challenging ones.

When I am helping employers interview candidates, I always suggest they look for people with: (1) the ability to change, (2) creativity skills, and (3) versatility in being able to do more than more than one skill or task. It’s the only way that you can be assured of having an effective, productive and happy employee down the road.

Here’s how one leader puts it in an article in Business Observer, a business publication in Florida. He said,

“I want to be on the front end of (my field). I’m going to keep pivoting, keep updating, and stay current.”

That is a wise way to think. In today’s world, you can’t rest on your laurels. Just when you’ve accomplished one initiative or handled a challenge— there is another one right behind it.

Action Steps for This Week…

  1. Think about what might step out to bite you in the future.
  2. Do you have the right equipment, services and people to handle it?
  3. What is your competition doing that you’re not?
  4. What are future areas your organization should be involved in?
  5. Are you well prepared for the upcoming year?
